Salvaging and using old materials in a contemporary way is like treasure-hunting, using what you can find to make something new and interesting. I love the slow process of building up a creation over days and weeks. Cutting and placing tiles is absorbing and you can lose yourself in the flow and rhythm. With a background in dementia and group work, I specialise in running creative sessions for people with additional needs, and have worked with charities and community interest groups to deliver inclusive workshops. The aim is to enjoy the materials and the process while making something worth keeping. Whatever challenges people face, we can often find a way to engage them with a bit of lateral thinking!
On becoming an independent maker, I've attended a range of mosaic workshops and creative business seminars. I am a member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic, and locally, Network Artists North East. Previously I worked as an Occupational Therapist in Mental Health (dementia) and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Research Methods. With a DBS Enhanced Disclosure Certificate and Public Liability Insurance, I can bring sessions to you. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss possibilities.
